02 Kourouta, Amaliada
Amaliada is a city recently rebuilt with the replacement of old houses. In its western part, coastal settlements have been developed, fully organized and with increased possibilities of tourist infrastructure. During the whole year there are (in the city but also in the wider Municipality) Hotels, Room Rental Businesses, as well as Catering and Entertainment Businesses.
Multiple routes start and end from the city, as its location makes it a crossroads between the Central and Western Peloponnese, North and South respectively. It is 294km by road. from Athens, 81km. from Patras, 20km. from Pyrgos, 42km. from Ancient Olympia, 140km. from Kalamata and 170km. from Tripoli. From the port of Kyllini, located at a distance of 31km. from the city, one can travel to Zakynthos and Kefalonia daily.

Kourouta holds a prominent position on the beaches of the Western Peloponnese. It is located just 1 and a half kilometers from our hotel and 3 kilometers from the second largest city of the Prefecture of Ilia, Amaliada. Kourouta beach, apart from the crystal clear sea, which is awarded the Blue Flag of the homonymous program of the European Union every year, offers the visitor a multitude of options for his accommodation and entertainment. The countless cafes-bars, clubs, restaurants, fish taverns and campsites both on Kouroutas beach and the nearby fishing shelter Paloukiou make sure your stay in the area as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
In Figalia, on the border between Arcadia and Messinia, rises to an altitude of 1130 meters the imposing temple of Epicurean Apollo, which was built in the 5th century BC and as the architect of the temple is mentioned by Pausanias Iktinos. It is one of the best preserved monuments of ancient Greece and is founded on the rock of Mount Kotilio, where the ancient city of Vasses was located.
The exhibits come mainly from donations from the locals and include local traditional costumes, everyday objects, furniture, decorations, agricultural tools and children’s toys. The majority of the items are from the late 19th and early 20th century, while several have been sent from abroad by Ilia immigrants.
Katakolo is a coastal village and export port in the Ilias regional unit, considered the gateway to Pyrgos. It is located 20 km from Amaliada. The village offers interesting attractions, including the ruins of ancient Phaia, the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, and the temple of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors. Furthermore, the port of Katakolo is a significant tourist destination, attracting cruise ships and recreational boats. It is an area that combines history, culture, and tourism and is worth visiting, especially if you find yourself in Amaliada.
Archaia Olympia is a station and starting point for all mankind over the centuries. It was the most glorious sanctuary of ancient Greece dedicated to Zeus. It was the venue of the Olympic Games which were held in the context of the Olympics, the most important holiday of the Greeks during most of antiquity.
Those who love the Greek tradition, the history of our country and want to see unique natural beauties and attractions in winter, all you have to do is visit the picturesque Andritsaina. Inside the city there is the Folklore Museum which houses 4000 exhibits from the socio-economic life of the wider mountainous Olympia. Andritsaina provides the visitor with all the modern tourist amenities, such as traditional taverns with local pure products, picturesque guesthouses, rooms for rent and mild night entertainment.
It is an Orthodox Greek monastery dedicated to Agios Nikolaos and is located in the Prefecture of Ilia, in the Local Community of Koryfi, at 16.69 km outside the city of Pyrgos and at an altitude of 219 meters. It belongs to the Holy Diocese of Ilia and Oleni. It was founded around the 14th century and got its name because according to the tradition during the Frankish period in the area, a Frankish Knight to escape the persecution of Saracen pirates jumped on horseback without suffering the slightest from the rocky slope of a hill invoking the Saint Nicholas to save him.
On the green hill with the dense vegetation that is located about one and a half kilometers from the center of Amaliada southeast, one of the most important pilgrimages of Ilia, the holy church of the Assumption of the Virgin, which was the catholic of the Byzantine monastery of Frangavilla. The church is cruciform with an 11th century dome, built on the ruins of an ancient temple, as it is supposed, and with interesting frescoes.
The new Archaeological Museum of Elis now dominates the foot of the ancient citadel overlooking the entire archaeological site. Visitors have the opportunity to admire exhibits that for several years, stacked in warehouses, were not accessible to the public. It includes findings brought to light by excavations and date from the Early Helladic to the Roman era. Vases, statues, sculptures, tombstones, clay and stone architectural members, figurines, bronze utensils, weapons, coins and other small objects are on display.
It is located above Ancient Ilida. This is one of the most important land improvement projects in the Prefecture of Ilia. The artificial lake was created in 1960, after the construction of a dam on the river Pinios, and is the largest in the Peloponnese. It is located northeast of Amaliada and is used for the irrigation of the plain of Ilia.
